Pupils in parliament

Our Year 6 pupils recently had the exciting opportunity to visit London, where they toured the iconic buildings of the Houses of Parliament and learned about the day-to-day responsibilities of MPs.

While there, the children also participated in a workshop exploring the impact of the suffragette movement and how its influence contributed to changing the course of history. This experience built upon – and helped contextualise – their classroom learning from earlier in the term, when they studied the life of Alice Hawkins, a local Leicestershire suffragette who campaigned tirelessly to improve pay and working conditions for women across the country.

Later in the day, the children had the privilege of meeting Amanda Hack, their newly-elected local MP for North West Leicestershire. She shared insights into her role in Parliament and offered the pupils a fascinating glimpse into the life of an MP.

Our children had a wonderful time, and the experience deepened their understanding of both history and politics.
