Premiums & Funding
Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM), Looked after Children, children adopted from care and Service Forces children. It also includes pupils who have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure). Pupil Premium funding is available to both mainstream and non-mainstream schools, such as special schools and pupil referral units.

Sports Funding
The Government is providing funding to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children. The PE and sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision within schools.
Purpose Of The Funding Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding include:
- Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport
- Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport
- Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport
- Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs
How Will We Be Spending The Sports Funding And Who Will Benefit?
We believe that the money must be used so that: all children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that all children are given the opportunity to compete in competitive sports and that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development.
Catch up Premium
What is the Catch up Premium?
The government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds. School allocations will be calculated on a number of pupil basis. Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months.
